“Imago Dei” is a Latin phrase which means “image of God.” Genesis 1:27 records that the human race was created in God’s image. That is to say, we were made to be God’s image-bearers. Due to sin’s corruption, humanity’s original design has been marred and no longer represents the divine image as it was originally intended. One of God’s goals is to transform believers back into His likeness (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Someday in the future this transformation will be total and complete (1 Corinthians 15:49). But until then, we’re seeking what God wants. That is to be gradually changed by His indwelling Spirit, so that we might glorify God and at the same time show others what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Welcome to transformation. Welcome to Imago Dei.
